I have worked in the community sector for forty years, with careers in housing development, grassroots activism and latterly as a Community Historian. Based in Nottingham I can offer a range of services to community and history projects.
I was the Heritage Officer at St Anns Allotments for eight years. The allotments are Grade II* listed town gardens, covering 75 acres in inner city St Anns and regenerated through Heritage Lottery Funding. I was responsible for developing interpretation and activities including establishing a heritage garden to demonstrate how the gardens looked over time, signage around the site, the recreation of the Shepherd's Race Maze, and burying a time capsule. I also developed and ran a community archaeology project for gardeners and local children. Over the eight years the gardens changed from a vandal hidden, overgrown area with very few gardeners to a vibrant, fully occupied site that welcomes visitors to explore its history and 500+ gardens.

I spent 2016/17 supporting Nottinghamshire Deaf Society to deliver a heritage project to capture the rich stories of the Deaf community and the history of the Nottingham Deaf School. The team set up an archives, filmed the life stories of 25 elders in British Sign Language and ran exhibitions around the County.

I was appointed to the East Midlands Committee of Heritage Lottery Fund from 2014 to 2019. My role was to assess projects for funding and represent HLF at project events. My main area of interest is community inclusion and 19th / 20th century buildings.
I am a founder member of the Nottingham Women’s History Group, established in 2007. The group was set up to celebrate, research and promote the role of women in Nottingham’s history – to show that Nottingham’s past included more than Robin Hood, Brian Clough and Alan Silitoe!
